Trauma Education Services

Little girl smiling with the words, "Our words have power. Hurtful words hurt my confidence. Choose praise

The MCAC offers education services for families affected by child maltreatment. The Trauma Education Specialist has unique training in understanding and counteracting the negative effects of abuse. The Trauma Education Specialist plays a vital role in recovery by providing educational and caregiving supports to the child and their family. They work closely with the child and their caregivers, as well as clinicians, school personnel and multidisciplinary team partners to create a trauma responsive pathway to healing.

Trauma education services are personalized to meet the unique and complex social, emotional, behavioral and learning needs of the child and caregivers affected by abuse. A holistic approach is utilized that values increasing felt-safety, attachment, trust, self-worth, and self-efficacy for both child and caregiver. By incorporating Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®) and Neurosequential Model in Education (NME) principles, the goal is to help the child return to their natural developmental trajectory.

The Trauma Education services include:

  • In-school mentorship for children
  • Trust-Based Relational Intervention Caregiver Training (in-person and telehealth)
  • Trauma responsive school related technical supports and advocacy
  • Professional development opportunities for schools, MDT and community partners
