During your appointment
Your child’s pediatric dermatologist will perform a thorough skin examination. During this examination, your child will need to remove some or all of his or her clothing.
The dermatologist may recommend a skin biopsy, skin scrape or blood test if needed. These procedures can be performed during the appointment. Your child’s dermatologist will use these procedures to make treatment recommendations.
Surgical procedures
If your child needs a surgical procedure, it may not be completed the same day as your appointment. Your child’s dermatologist will work with your child and family to determine whether to use a local or general anesthetic. During a surgical procedure, your child may watch a movie or listen to music to help them feel more comfortable.
